In "chess meets of the CENTURY" schreibt Bjelica auf Seite 11: I'll tell you about an incident that will explain many misunderstandings in connection with Fischer. During the Olympiad in Varna in 1962, I wanted to make an interview with Fischer for the "Chess" from Riga. I had prepared the questions in advance but Fischer demanded also 50 dollars! But he is better to his Grandmaster colleagues than newspaper reporters. We were walking on a beach. I just wanted to speak with him in order to get better acquainted with him. He was 18 and I was interested in his future plans...
- Yes, I have to decide now either to marry or to buy a car, said Bobby. To have a wife is even better than a car.
- Why, I asked?
- I would not like to marry an Amarican girl. With a foreigner would be much better. First you get "her" without customs, if you dont like her you can send her back home. A car is mor expensive.
He told me all that seriously. Fischer takes everything literrally. Unfortunately, he has not developed a sense of humor. Journalists sometimes "hear" from him waht they would like to hear, and he did not say anything of the kind..."
Ein wirklich sehr empfehlenswertes Buch. Lese ich immer wieder gerne. Am 4. Juli 1972 beschäftigt die AZ weiterhin die Frage: "Kommt er, kommt er nicht?"
