Dear Chess Friends,

A new idea is born...to work over a new project...

I've decided to create a new SCCT (16 min + 2 sec) Rating List

Even I started it (since yesterday),
For example the current playing match is Komodo 8 vs Stockfish 040914

Note that,
I have several machines (dual, quad, six-core etc...)
And periodically I plan to use some of them....mainly my six-core machines

What is your opinion about my new idea?
Do you like it or maybe there is something wrong in my setup....?)
What I can do or to improve more over this project ..?

And here are my planning new conditions and rules:
- Clones, derivative engines are not planning to be tested
- All chess engines will be played with Ponder ON
- Almost all chess engines are planning to played as MP
- Large Pages OFF / Hyper-Threading OFF / Tablebases OFF
- As far as possible the strongest engines will be tested
- As far as possible the strongest openings will be used
- Time control: 16 Min + 2 Sec (adapted to i5 3210M 2.50 GHz)
- ChessBase GUI / Arena GUI / Shredder Classic GUIs will be used
- Perfect 2014t opening book will be used
- LIVE Tools will be not allowed on same tournament PC
- Running Multiple matches or several GUIs will be not allowed on same tournament PC
- Tournament Manager: Sedat Canbaz

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated...

Thanks in advance...

Greetings,
Sedat

Update

I've changed my mind...
I plan to adapt the time control to my i7 980X 3.33 GHz machine
Because mostly of the games will be played on my 6-core machines

So the new official adapted time control is;
Time control: 3 Min + 2 Sec (adapted to i7 980X 3.33 GHz)

BTW,
2 yeas ago...I've done a Auto232 hardware Elo measuring test between:
-Intel QX9650 3.00GHz 1c 25m+2s vs Intel Core i7 980X @4.00 GHz 6c 3m+2s
Where the results ended with big difference in favor for i7 980X @4.00 GHz 6c 3m+2s
And as far I remember, i7 980X @4.00 GHz 6c 3m+2s had no any single defeat!

And that's why I think,
i5 3210M 2.50 Ghz 16 min + 2 sec is probably approx. equal to i7 980X 3.33GHz (3 min + 2 sec)

And here is the calculation speed formula:
3 min x60 sec = 180 sec + average 70 moves per side x 2 sec =  140 sec
Total: 180s+140s = 320 sec

16 min x60 sec = 960 sec + average 70 moves per side x 2 sec =  140 sec
Total: 960s+140s = 1100 sec

So, after dividing 1100 sec / 320 sec= 3,4

And when we compare with Fritz benchmark the both machines (i5 vs i7),
i7 980X 3.33GHz = 14 600 kns and i5 3210M  =  4550 kns
i7 980X 3.33GHz seems to be approx. 3.2 times faster than i5 3210M 2.50GHz

Note that when we compare with Stockfish bench the speed difference is minus plus same too

Best,
Sedat

Hello Sedat,

you, you ... great tournament dicrector you!
I am so happy that I can find in your rules ...

- Clones, derivative engines are not planning to be tested

My old eyes find every time each good information!
Maybe I have today longer to search ... but I know where I have to look!

You are welcome in the group of "new art of computer chess" lovers.
Arnaud will do it too and follow!

Ponder on is allways better for looking (more interesting to follow, but only if you have a chance to follow).
Means, a fast time control and you have no chance in your own live mode at home to understand what the engines produced.

I have more fun if I can follow the games in my own live mode. So I understand with a longer time control 5% more!

Have fun with your new tourney.
Very hard your own conditions but the result will be strong!

Best
Frank

Hello dear Frank!

Thanks a lot...I follow too your great work,
Not many people like you, we need more Franks...!!

Yes, this time I preferred different conditions

As you know,
Almost all available MP ratings are with Ponder Off
We have only SSDF as an MP rating, plus my SCCT Auto232 MP rating...
And unfortunately SSDF does not include latest engine versions
Probably due to SSDF has no much free CPU time, because their TC is 40/120

So...before starting to work over this new project (mp rating with ponder on),
I was thinking to resume my previous rating SCCT (3m+2s) MP rating,
which is based on Ponder OFF...but later I decided to to start new...

In this way,
We will have possibility to see, which MP engines suffer or gain with pondering
Even there is a chance, this new mp rating to be continued for a long time of period...
For example, in case of hardware update to new faster machines, I can add those games too

Best wishes,
Sedat
