Hi Axel,

thanks for the very interessant games : 64bits and 4 cores! I'll try Stockfish against RobboLito and/or other Ippolit later. Probably this week.

Best,
Orlando

Any top engine can "win" (should I say "lead"?) against IvanHoe after only 50 games!

I am aware of the small amount of games and limited validity. But nevertheless I wonder if any other engine (incl. TOP-Engines) has won against InvanHoe in a match of 50 or more games (every opening repeated for each engine).
Any top engine can "win" (should I say "lead"?) against IvanHoe after only 50 games!
Yes, but the likelyhood is not very large. OK, sometimes it happens.
Per example, if you have A stronger than B with a real advantage of 55:45, you will get in a 50 games match only with likelyhood 0,16 a winner B.
So also a 50 games result is not without any information. Let's see more...

Hi Benno and Axel,

Just last night I ran a match
Stockfish 1.7.1 JA (2-cpu) against Rybka 3 64-bit (2-cpu) (contempt 0)
100 games, 2'+1", no ponder, 2-cpu, Book PB-5moves (Michael Scheidl)
Fritz 11 GUI, XP Pro x64, 3GHz, 512MB hash, Nalimov 3-4-5
The result was (for Stockfish):
+24 -30 =46   so 47 - 53 (47% for Stockfish)

But if I only take the 50 first games, I get:
+14 -9 =27   so  27.5 - 22.5 (55% for Stockfish)

Remember, it's all a question of statistics!...

Hi Ernest,

your results are not surprising - there will be lots of similar results between engines with similar strength!

I was interested in the special case of IvanHoe: If you or someone else can proof / has examples, that any engine leads in any range of 50 games?

Regards
Axel

Shure, it can! But how often does it happen? Do you have any examples?
Parent - - By Orlando de la Vega Date 2010-04-12 00:25
let me just add something. My different own tests show that Firebird 1.2 and RobboLito 0.085 g3 are the best. Seeing Stockfish drawing here against Ivanhoe is not a big surprise for me. Perhaps can you make an another test against Firebird 1.2 ?

Best,
Orlando

Habe es auch getestet mit Firebird 1.2 und Stockfish 1.7, mit 2 CPU 32bit

Und es ist der erste Match in meine Testverfahren mit Firebird (seit dec 2009), das Firebird eine Match verliert !!
Richtig erstaunlich

Nunn2 match: T8100, 2100 Mhz (Fritzmark 6.29)

Stockfish 1.7 - Firebird 1.2, Blitz 4m+2s

1   FireBird 1.2 x64                 +9/=29/-12 50.00%   22,5/50  0.00
2   Stockfish 1.7.1 JA 64bit     +12/=29/-9 50.00%   27,5/50  0.00
